Professional Recognition

Jeff Schwartz was certified in 2013 by the North Carolina State Bar as a Specialist in Trademark Law. He is among the first 22 attorneys state-wide to receive this distinction, and one of only three such attorneys in the Charlotte area. To be certified as a specialist in a practice area, an attorney must be in practice for at least five years, devote a significant part of his practice to the specialty area, attend continuing legal education seminars in the specialty, and be favorably evaluated by other attorneys and judges. The attorney must also pass a written bar examination in the specialty practice area.

Jeff has been consistently selected by his peers as one of North Carolina’s leading intellectual property attorneys, as surveyed by various publications including West Publishing Corporation, Business North Carolina Magazine, Woodward/White, Inc., U.S. News & World Report, and Charlotte Magazine.

Each year Business North Carolina Magazine surveys attorneys throughout the State to obtain their view on the State’s best practitioners in designated areas of law; more than 16,000 attorneys receive ballots each year. Jeff is one of 500 lawyers statewide to be chosen as a member of the LEGAL ELITE™. He has received this recognition in the field of Intellectual Property for each of years 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020.

In a separate survey by West Publishing Corporation, ballots are sent to approximately 16,800 active lawyers in North Carolina who have been in practice for five years or more. The ballot asks lawyers to nominate the best attorneys they’ve personally observed in action. The nominees are grouped into nearly 50 practice areas. The survey comprises interviews and contacts, independent research, data verification, and a good standing review. The top candidates from each practice area are selected as “Super Lawyers.” Jeff is one of less than 50 lawyers statewide to be named among North Carolina SUPER LAWYERS® in years 2006, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 in the field of Intellectual Property.

Jeff has also been selected by his peers for inclusion in the 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 2019, 2020 and 2021 editions of BEST LAWYERS® in the fields of Patent Law and Trademark Law. This publication is regarded as the definitive guide to legal excellence in the United States.

Selection to BEST LAWYERS® is based on an exhaustive and rigorous peer-review survey comprising more than 3.1 million confidential evaluations by the top attorneys in the country.

Additionally, Jeff has been named as one of the top 100 intellectual property lawyers in North Carolina by the American Society of Legal Advocates, and as a top lawyer in the Charlotte area by Charlotte Magazine.
